Notaries and apostille help
Indian families often need papers notarized: affidavits for OCI and passport applications, power of attorney for property in India, minor child consent letters, and sponsorship letters for parents' visas. This list shows notaries in the Charlotte area, including mobile notaries who come to you.
In North Carolina, a notary may charge up to $10 per signature for an acknowledgment, jurat or verification, plus travel if you agreed to it in advance. Bring an unexpired government photo ID and do not sign the document until you are in front of the notary. A notary only witnesses signatures: they cannot give immigration or legal advice or tell you which form to use.
For papers going to India, check the Indian mission or VFS checklist for whether the document needs notarization only, or notarization plus an apostille, before you book. The OCI and passport help guides link to the official lists.
An apostille is a separate step done by the North Carolina Secretary of State after notarization. One listing here, Notary $5 NC, is the editor's own and is labeled Sponsored.
