Confirmed 2026 temple events

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at 4100 Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews has a Kids Diwali Celebration on Sunday 1 November, 4:30 to 9pm, with fireworks from 8 to 9pm; the organizer asks families to register. Trimurti Temple Devasthanam at 6441 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte lists Deepavali: Sri Mahalakshmi Puja for Saturday 7 November but has not posted a time. BAPS lists Diwali and Chopda Pujan for Sunday 8 November, 5 to 8pm, including three aarti times from 6:30 to 7:30pm, and Annakut Darshan for Tuesday 10 November. For driving to Trimurti, the temple specifically says to enter 6519 Beatties Ford Road in GPS. Each event page links to the organizer; confirm admission details with the temple.

Hindu Center of Charlotte Diwali Mela

The Hindu Center of Charlotte, 7400 City View Drive, has held a Diwali mela in past years. In 2024 it was a carnival and shopping expo on 20 October; in 2025 it ran a two-day cultural programme and mela on 25 and 26 October. Entry was free both years. For 2026 the center has announced its Diwali Mela for Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, with music, food, vendor stalls and cultural performances; it posted the dates and a registration link on its own Instagram on 24 October 2026 and says more than 1,500 children take part over the two days. The post does not give times or the venue, so check hcclt.org or call 704-535-3440 before you go.

Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026. Dhanteras is Friday 6 November, Naraka Chaturdashi Saturday 7 November, Govardhan Puja Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj Tuesday 10 November. The Amavasya tithi runs from 12:58am on 8 November to 2:02am on 9 November Eastern, so Lakshmi Puja is done at pradosha on the Sunday evening, about 5:23pm to 7:47pm. Most Charlotte community programmes are scheduled for the weekends around it rather than the day itself. Exact tithi times are on our Charlotte panchangam.

When is Diwali 2027?

Diwali 2027 falls on Thursday 28 October in Charlotte. The Amavasya tithi runs from 11:18am on 28 October to 9:36am on 29 October Eastern time, so Lakshmi Puja is done at pradosha on the evening of the 28th, roughly 6:33pm to 8:57pm. Calendars printed for India show Friday 29 October 2027, because the same tithi sits differently in that time zone, so if family back home celebrates a day after you, that is why. Dhanteras is Tuesday 26 October, Govardhan Puja Friday 29 October and Bhai Dooj Saturday 30 October 2027. Exact times for every tithi are on our Charlotte panchangam.

Lake Norman Diwali, Huntersville

The big open-air Diwali in the region is Lake Norman Diwali at Veteran’s Park, 201 Huntersville-Concord Road, Huntersville 28078. Heart2Harmony Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, runs it with Huntersville Parks and Recreation. It is free to attend and held in mid-October, a few weeks ahead of Diwali itself: Saturday 11 October 2025 from 3 to 7pm, and Saturday 17 October 2026 from 1:30 to 6:30pm. The programme runs cultural performances and a dance drama, a fashion walk, a kids’ train ride and bounce house, art and rangoli competitions, Indian street food and sweets from vendors, a shopping bazaar, and a diya lighting ceremony with a light show to close. For 2026 there is also a separately ticketed banana leaf feast at 11am and noon, and free parking is listed at 14615 S Old Statesville Road. The organiser posts updates at diwali-huntersville.com.

Temple pujas

Trimurti Temple and BAPS have announced 2026 programmes; their verified details are above. The Hindu Center of Charlotte, Shirdi Sai Temple, ISKCON and the Jain Center have also held Diwali and Lakshmi puja programmes in past years. Check each temple’s own site for this year’s schedule. There is no Sri Venkateswara temple in Charlotte; the SV Temple of North Carolina is in Cary, about two and a half hours away.

Sweets and groceries

Order mithai early. Several Charlotte grocers take Diwali pre-orders. For 2026 the Hindu Center’s Annapurna Cafe takes Diwali sweet and snack pre-orders until Saturday 31 October at 5pm, ordered online through the link in the center’s post; the order-by list near the top of this page has the details. Mithai, diyas, rangoli colours and string lights come from the same few places every year.
