Volunteer and seva opportunities

Seva means service, and this list points to Charlotte organizations that welcome volunteers, including families and groups: Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Nourish Up (formerly Loaves and Fishes), Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte, and Hands On Charlotte, which matches people with projects across the city.

Most of these organizations ask volunteers to sign up online for a shift, and some set a minimum age for children. Corporate and temple groups can often book a group shift; ask about group size limits.

Second Harvest is a regional food bank where individuals and groups sort food, and the Ronald McDonald House near uptown relies on volunteers to support the families staying there.

Temples and cultural associations also run their own seva days, food drives and health fairs. The events calendar lists the ones that are public, and the community groups page links to the associations themselves.
