Indian catering in Charlotte: weddings, pujas, parties and office lunches

Indian catering here comes from three kinds of kitchen: restaurants that sell party trays, caterers that also bring staff, a buffet setup or a live dosa counter, and a temple kitchen. These 29 are the ones whose own website says they cater, checked in October 2026, and we only repeat what each one says about itself. Call two or three with the same menu and headcount and compare.

In short

Most Indian catering in Charlotte comes from restaurants with a catering menu, sold by the tray or quoted per person. For weddings and large parties, Maharani, Saffron, the Chaat N Dosa and Tabla kitchen, Swadeshi Adda, Raj Ki Bandi and Jay Bhavani all say they cater weddings or large events. For a vegetarian or Jain menu, Jay Bhavani says its whole kitchen is vegetarian, and Trimurti Temple’s kitchen sells Satvik food by the half and full tray.

Good to know

Three ways to cater an Indian event here

Most Indian catering in Charlotte comes from restaurants with a catering menu: you order trays, then pick them up or pay for delivery. A smaller group will also send staff, set up a buffet or bring a cook for a live dosa or chaat counter. Maharani says it does full-service catering including buffet, and delivers within 300 miles for weddings, sangeet and mehendi. Raj Ki Bandi and Jay Bhavani both advertise live cooking stations, and the shared Chaat N Dosa and Tabla catering team offers buffet setup, servers and live stations. The third option is a temple kitchen: Trimurti Temple sells Satvik food by the tray through an order form on its own site.

How Indian catering is priced

The caterers we checked price in one of two ways: by the tray, or per person with a minimum guest count. Tray sizes are not standard. Saffron says its small tray serves 20 to 25 guests and its large tray 45 to 50, and its packages start at 8 dishes per guest with a 25 guest minimum, priced by quote. Jay Bhavani lists a small tray for 6 to 8 people at $45 to $65, a medium for 10 to 15 at $75 to $110 and a large for 20 to 25 at $100 to $150, depending on the dish. Trimurti Temple’s order form lists most dishes at $65 for a half tray and $125 for a full tray, with the quantity per tray marked dish by dish. Mystic Spice suggests budgeting $30 a person and caters up to 150 guests. Those figures were on each business’s own site when we checked in October 2026. Prices change, so get a written quote.

How far ahead to book

Jay Bhavani’s wedding page asks for four to eight weeks’ notice, and eight to twelve weeks for spring and fall dates or 200 or more guests. Its tray page asks for at least 24 hours, or 48 to 72 hours for 50 or more guests. The other caterers on this page do not publish a lead time, so ask on the first call. For a wedding, get the date, menu, headcount and price confirmed in writing.

Questions to ask before you book

Get two or three quotes for the same menu and headcount, or you are comparing different meals. Ask how many people one tray feeds, whether delivery, setup, chafing dishes, plates and servers are in the price, and whether tax or a service charge is added on top. Ask whether they do a tasting before a wedding and whether it is charged. For a puja, say if the food will be offered as naivedyam first and whether it has to be made without onion and garlic.

Vegetarian, Jain and Swaminarayan menus

If your guests are strictly vegetarian, the simplest choice is a kitchen that never cooks meat. Jay Bhavani says its entire kitchen is vegetarian and that it will cook without onion, garlic or root vegetables on request for Jain and Swaminarayan guests. The Chaat N Dosa, Tabla and Sweet Magic catering team says it will cook only in the Chaat N Dosa vegetarian kitchen if you ask. Saffron has an all-vegetarian package, but the restaurant also cooks meat. For anything else, ask the kitchen directly; we cannot tell you what a kitchen will do on the day.

Is the kitchen permitted?

North Carolina law says a business that prepares or serves food cannot operate without a health department permit (G.S. 130A-247 and 130A-248), and the state food rules cover catering. The state’s home processor program only covers shelf-stable foods such as baked goods, jams, candy and spice mixes, and does not allow refrigerated foods or dairy, so a tray of curry or paneer does not qualify. Ask any caterer which permitted kitchen the food is made in. In Mecklenburg County, inspection grades for permitted kitchens are public on the county health inspections site. On the South Carolina side, including Fort Mill and Indian Land, retail food permits come from the SC Department of Agriculture, and the state cottage food law only covers foods that do not need temperature control.

Hindu Center catering and temple halls

The Hindu Center of Charlotte has a catering site at catering.hcclt.org, but it did not load when we checked on 4 October 2026, and the temple’s main site does not link to it, so call the temple office on 704-535-3440 to ask. Trimurti Temple’s kitchen catering form was working the same day. Each temple sets its own rules for food in its hall and we have not found them published, so we are not going to guess. Before you book a caterer for a temple hall, ask the temple office whether outside caterers are allowed, whether the food must be vegetarian, whether eggs are allowed in a cake, and who cleans the kitchen. The temples guide links to each one.

Venues, priests, sweets and decor

Utsav on Westpark Drive lists three halls seating 200, 450 and 700, says it caters on site from its own commercial kitchen, and allows outside catering with a few exceptions. For the rest of a puja or wedding, see Hindu priests in Charlotte, Indian wedding vendors for decor, DJs and photographers, and Indian sweets and bakeries for mithai trays.
