South Indian food in Charlotte

Dosa and tiffin

If you want a proper dosa and idli breakfast rather than dosa as a dinner item, the dedicated tiffin places are the ones to look for: Godavari Truly South Indian, Chaat N Dosa, Dosa n More in Fort Mill, Sri Balaji in Pineville and Davidson. The full-menu restaurants make dosa well but usually treat it as one section rather than the centre of the kitchen.

Regional differences

Andhra and Telangana cooking dominates the north corridor and Concord, which follows where people live. Tamil and Chettinad show up at Anjappar in Pineville and Kolapasi. Kerala and Udupi are thinner on the ground here than either. Sri Balaji and Jay Bhavani in Pineville are Gujarati-run but carry South Indian tiffin alongside.

Pure vegetarian
