Indian classical dance classes in Charlotte

The Indian classical dance academies we have found across Greater Charlotte, covering Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathak. Each links to its own page. Term dates, ages and fees come from the academy, not from us.

Choosing a school

The questions worth asking are the tradition or bani the teacher trained in, whether the school works towards an arangetram and what that path involves, and how much performance the students actually do. Those three answers tell you more about a school than the timetable does. Most take children from around five or six, and several take adult beginners.

Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi

Bharatanatyam is the most widely taught here. Kuchipudi follows the Telugu community and is taught at Nritya Kalarpana. Both take years rather than terms, so the teacher relationship matters more than the drive time, within reason.

Kathak and Bollywood

Ashwini Kathak Dance Academy covers Kathak, which is much thinner on the ground here than the southern forms. Anokha Dance Company does Bollywood and contemporary, which is a different thing from classical training and is usually what people mean when they search for a dance class for an adult.
