Abacus, math tutoring and chess in Charlotte

The abacus, math enrichment and chess programmes Indian families in Charlotte actually use, grouped by town. Every one links to its own site, because term dates, levels and fees come from them and change every year.

Abacus and mental math

ALOHA Mind Math in south Charlotte and Eye Level are the two that come up most in this metro. Both run in levels over several years rather than as a short course, so the question to ask on the first call is what the full path looks like and what happens if you move mid-level.

Chess

Charlotte Chess Center and Scholastic Academy on Kettering Drive is the serious one, running rated tournaments as well as coaching. Chess Klub is in the Concord corridor. Both take children from young ages; ask about the split between group class and rated play, because those are different products.

Math tutoring

Kumon in Ballantyne and Mathnasium in Concord, Fort Mill and Huntersville cover most of the metro between them, and they work differently: Kumon is daily worksheets at home with a centre visit, Mathnasium is centre-based sessions. Ramana Learning Center and TMSA Charlotte are the local alternatives. Which suits a child depends more on whether they will do daily work unsupervised than on the branding.
